Dodge, Dip, Duck, Dive & Donate

July 2, 2018 - Team building is important to us here at HighGround. Earlier this year, we pushed the boundaries of a team building exercise as a select few HighGrounders chose to form a dodgeball team – all for a great cause.

Dodge for a Cause is an annual dodgeball tournament underwritten by the international law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP. The event benefited Vogel Alcove, a nonprofit organization based in Dallas whose main mission is to help young children overcome the lasting and traumatic effects of homelessness.

Now in its sixth year, the tournament was held at American Airlines Center and utilized a round-robin structure to match more than 25 Dallas-based company teams against each other. Each team was guaranteed at least five matches. Matches lasted mere minutes, three minutes tops, as opponents were quickly and efficiently eliminated.

At the end of the preliminary rounds, the top winning teams advanced. The champion team was Sewell Automotive. The real winner, though, is Vogel Alcove, which received more than $85,000 through corporate sponsorships and donations thanks to the annual event.

“HighGround’s purpose is to further the missions of charitable organizations with service to others as their main focus. We achieve our mission daily by growing our client’s assets for good,” HighGround President Jeff Smith said. “Participating in Dodge for a Cause was a great way to put our purpose into action on a new level.”

We didn't take home the trophy but have already started practicing for 2019's epic rematch!
